Sus Manos Extendidas Summer 2026 Update

Dear Partners,

I come to you again to update you on the children’s home. This spring and summer have seen generous amounts of giving and growing. What a blessing people are when they learn the joy of giving, especially giving to the poor and needy. Consider Jesus, with whom the Creator most closely identified: He chose to be born into poverty. Laid in a feeding trough, His parents could afford only the most modest temple sacrifice—two small birds. He had nowhere to lay His head during His ministry, and He died possessing nothing, not even the clothes on His back. The poor are not a project or a mission trip, they’re precious to God. Every time we reach out to touch a withering hand or look into a child’s eyes, dulled by suffering, we are responding to our Savior, who said, “For I was hungry and you gave me food…” (Matthew 25:35a)

Many of these children arrive with absolutely nothing, often lacking even a change of clothes, or wearing garments so soiled they must be discarded. Some are malnourished beyond belief, their minds exposed to depravity and their hearts crushed by despair. The question is not whether we should care for the poor, but rather, how can we fail to identify with those whom Jesus held so close?

“...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

What starts as obedience to a clear call for action becomes a delight to our souls for as we identify with what Jesus held dear we find this to be the funnel by which joy fills our lives.


Let us turn our gaze away from our own reflections and focus instead on the love He has shown us. In doing so, we will see what He values most: His people and His creation. This will create a love not out of obligation but rather overflow. And the overflow is where we most reflect His great love for us.

Thank you one and all for letting the love of God overflow in your heart. Your generosity is known by God and He will bless you to the point you will not be able to contain it.

On March 10 we had the privilege of celebrating Carla Mansee’s passing from this life to the next. What a faithful servant she was. She blessed so many which included our children’s home. Thanks Carla for your faithfulness…we’ll see ya in a bit. In a moment. In the twinkling of an eye!

Earlier this year, while Margie and I were down there, we also received possession of a brand new Kubota tractor generously given to us by Robert and Betsy Smith. Other contributors to the tractor purchase include High Point Church, as well as Steve and Christi Roeder.

This will help us maintain the 8 acre property and help us to better develop the newer half. Thank you Robert for such generosity! Of course we also spent time with the children and our staff. It is such a joy to love these kiddos and our staff of seven.

Our most recent trip was not by air but rather by ground. We pulled the trailer down to the Rio Grande Valley. On the trailer were four implements for the new tractor. These implements were given to us by the same individual who gave us the tractor. For months my father and I attempted to hire an importer/broker to take this equipment across the border (we felt this was the safest way to do it). We found it increasingly difficult to make this happen so we loaded everything up and just headed for the border. We basically showed up on the doorstep of a man named Jose whom I had been dealing with over the phone, but had gotten nowhere. After about a day's worth of talking through the many problems, we finally came to a resolution and were able to have the implements delivered across the border and then to the children’s home. It was a vexing problem, but God showed up and showed off like he always does!

Once we arrived at the children’s home we went to work. The next day the tractor implements were delivered in a box truck. This was a great example of God‘s faithfulness! I was very happy they had arrived! This trip saw us using these new tractor attachments and teaching Luis how to use them.

Also we received a new car donated by David Doran. The local MG dealership blessed him with a great deal and we took delivery right before we arrived. This was a much needed vehicle as the previous one had been stolen. Thank you David and Isabel for your generosity!

My good friend and brother Roy Quesada partnered with me on this trip. He, being a good mechanic, has helped us with some repairs on the zero turn mower and the van. He was such an incredible blessing!

We were there for seven days this last trip so we ended up doing quite a bit. Thank you so much for all you do for the children. It blesses my heart to know that I am not alone in all of this, but I have you as our partners to be his hands extended.
